Skype has been around for quite some time – since 2003, to be exact. What began as a peer-to-peer free online voice-calling service, eventually adding instant messaging and video conferencing capabilities. The service was bought by eBay in 2006, then Microsoft in 2011. Now, Skype has hundreds of millions of user accounts, and the service is the largest international voice carrier in the world. The newly-revamped app allows voice and video calls, instant messaging, photo, video, and location sharing, and group video calls with up to 25 people. Calls between Skype users are always free, and users can call mobile or landlines for very low rates. While there are many communications tools out there for mobile devices today, Skype is still one of the most powerful out there.
